Save Local Business call from Dr Hirst

11.14.30am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 22nd Aug 2005

Dr Peter Hirst, a Middlewich Lib Dem activist is calling for a change in licencing regulations to help save local coffee shop, Mackerel Sky on St Anne's Road in Middlwich.

The nature of the trading licence is such that the coffee shop is unable to apply for planning permission to erect a sign advertising their presence and the licence also restricts trading until November 2005.

Dr Hirst asks that all Middlewich area residents go along to the coffee shop and show their support as well as lobbying the council to end the restrictions which are strangling the business.

In a town that will increasingly rely on the passing tourist trade, it would seem logical to have amenities that will encourage people to stop in the town and bolster the local economy.
