The Liberal Democrats are asking the people who actually perform the services how best to cut out unnecessary waste.
They have launched a website where people who work with taxpayers' money can submit suggestions on how to cut waste in the public sector. .
It was launched last week by leader Nick Clegg as part of the 'Ask the People in the Know' project and can be accessed at www.nickclegg.com/intheknow
Dr Peter Hirst, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Congleton responds positively to this announcement "We are so used to politicians and civil servants taking these decisions that it is refreshing that we are actually asking the teachers, nurses and librarians how to do their jobs more efficiently, he says.
"Unlike the Tories, who just want to take an axe to public sector jobs, and Labour, who only care about bailing out bankers, the Liberal Democrats will reduce public debt in a responsible way.
That is why we are asking front line staff to tell us where cuts can be safely made. They have spent their working lives doing these jobs so it's common sense that they are in the best position to advise us and I encourage them to let us know. Their comments will feed directly into our manifesto for the coming General Election," he concludes.
