Responding to a recent article by Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor Dr Vince Cable in Mail Online that we must make better use economically of people past retirement age, Cllr Peter Hirst Parliamentary Spokesperson for Congleton agrees
"It is vital that we make the most of the existing pool of talent, enthusiasm and talent in Congleton amongst those who are able to draw their pensions," he declares. "With the number of elderly growing and the birth rate falling we really have no alternative."
"Women have on average twenty years of life after retirement with men slightly less. Many remain physically and mentally active for a good deal of this time and would welcome a more productive use of some of it."
"We should make it easier to continue working past the mandatory pension age. This implies the introduction of more flexible working arrangements such as part-time working to accommodate pensioners. It will also require legislation so deferring your pension is easier and financially more rewarding ," concludes Peter.
