Dr Peter Hirst, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Congleton has echoed leader Nick Clegg's call for Parliament to continue sitting until there is a satisfactory solution to the present debacle.
" It would be easy for our MPs to adopt a sticking plaster solution so that they can get away for their summer holidays. It would be much better for them to remain until we see real progress," he says.
"This includes making it easier to remove a sitting MP who is recommended for suspension by the appropriate committee. Five per cent of the electorate signing a petition requesting his/her removal would prompt a by-election under these circumstances," he continues.
Other improvements required include fixed term parliaments where the Prime Minister determines the timing of each General Election and reform of party funding.
"Circumstances have created a situation where there is some momentum for change. We should build on it so there is a lasting legacy from these damaging revelations," he concludes.
