Every year around 3 million women experience an incident of violence each year. The Equality and Human Right Commission found in 2007 that Congleton constituency has no specialised services to support women who have suffered such crimes.
Dr Peter Hirst, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Congleton says " It is outrageous that within the whole constituency there is no facility to help women affected. It is not enough to say that they can travel to access these services. It is vital that these services are accessed locally.
He continues "This postal code lottery of services is unacceptable. I am calling upon our MP Ann Winterton to sign Early Day Motion 653, which calls for improved funding for violence against women services," he concludes.
