Congleton Constituency's Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson Dr Peter Hirst is concerned about the 'appalling lack of consultation' on the new Cheshire East Council's budget proposals.
"This failure by the new Council's ruling Conservatives to consult Opposition councillors on the authority's initial tax and spending programme means that the Tory bosses original promises about 'working together' were totally hollow," claims Dr Hirst.
"We knew the budget would be tight - and that the Tories were thinking about making cuts to vital services and introducing new charges, such as those for car parking" he added. "All the more reason to pull in all the resources of the Council to achieve a consensus and help the people of Cheshire East get the most out of limited funds."
"Instead, opposition councillors were not consulted - or in any way involved in this important decision-making. Indeed some were only given two hours to read the final report of 208 pages before the crucial Council meeting."
"This is no way for such a large. important public body to behave," commented Dr Hirst.
