The setting up an East Cheshire Unitary Authority from April 1st presents many challenges for an authority with a net budget in the region of £400 million.
However the shadow Conservative administration identified as a priority whether or not the authority should have a Chairman or a Mayor.
District Councils were consulted and Congleton Borough led by the Tory administration fully supported by Liberal Democrats proposed that the Cheshire East should have a Chairman.
However, when it came to Cheshire East Council meeting the same Congleton Conservatives in a named vote voted that Cheshire East should have a Mayor!
