Liberal Democrats have full slate of Candidates for 2006 Local Elections

Congleton Liberal Democrats have placed candidates in every vacancy in Congleton Borough. This includes two Town Council vacancies in Congleton North caused by dismissal of absentee councillors.

"We are very pleased;" said Liz Foster-Clark, Chair of Congleton Liberal Democrats, "we have a strong team of really good Councillors and Council candidates this year, who are all keen to work hard for their communities. We are the only party in Congleton to have a candidate in every ward."

Alsager East

Councillor Terry Farrell

Terry has lived in Alsager for 43 years, is a retired teacher, has been a member of Alsager Town Council for 30 years. He has been a member of Congleton Borough Council for 17 years. Terry was instrumental in the setting up of the Citizens' Advice Bureau outreach service from Kidsgrove in Alsager. He is a member of Wesley Place Methodist Church and as served as both Church and Circuit Steward.

Terry will campaign to reverse the recent deterioration in services and continue to lobby for the promised drainage scheme on Wayside Linley. Terry also supports retaining Alsager Civic Centre and Fairview car park in council ownership.

Knud works Principal Analyst for a City Council. He has Diplomas in Town Planning and Management and an MA in Geography. His main interests are listening to music and gardening. He is currently a member of Odd Rode Parish Council and is a strong believer in protecting local services and the countryside.

Andrew grew up in Congleton and has recently returned here from studying in the North East. He has given his time as a volunteer for various groups, particularly those working with young people.

Eleanor Hall

Eleanor is an architect living in West Heath. A regular visitor to the town since 1991, she moved here two years ago to marry local builder Steven Hall. She studied at Manchester University, has worked in Zimbabwe and London, and now works for a small firm in Macclesfield. She enjoys living in West Heath and has recently become a Governor at Black Firs Primary School.

A keen walker and cyclist, she is passionate about protecting the environment and supports the Libdem Councillors in their campaign for kerbside collection of cardboard and plastics. She will campaign for better health services, more accessible local services and to protect our leisure services.

Dane Valley

Elizabeth (Liz) Foster Clark

Married with three grown-up children, Liz has lived in Goostrey for 22 years. She has been actively involved in village organisations, such as Goostrey Parish Council, Village Hall Management Committee and is a Governor of Goostrey Community School.

Liz is Chair of Congleton Constituency Liberal Democrats. Her candidacy is endorsed both by Councillor Bill Owen and party President Simon Hughes.

She will work to protect the rural; environment and train and bus services; match policing service with rural needs; promote Gooostrey's interests in long-term borough planning while continuing the fight against further gas plant development.

Holmes Chapel

David Savage

David has lived in Holmes Chapel for 25 year and has raised his family here. He enjoys its compact and thriving community, so close to open countryside, and wants work to make sure it remains the type of place we are happy to live in.

David is the Chair of Holmes Chapel Parish Council, treasurer of the Youth Centre Management Committee, and member of Councils against Dumping, M6 Forum of Cheshire Councils and Leisure Centre Joint Management Committee.

"Politics at any level can be hard work but, just like families, the more you put in the more you get out. Both can be fun and exiting, full of pleasure - there will be sadness, disappointment and frustration. Both bread trust, loyalty, pride and respect and all this is achieve by working hard together.

Councillor Roy Giltrap

Hard working Roy Giltrap, has been a member of the Borough Council for 10years, as well as taking on his new responsibilities as County Councillor last year. He is a School Governor at both Rode Heath and Church Lawton Primary Schools, and Trustee at Lawton Memorial Hall.

He served 21 years as Church Lawton Parish Councillor, 6 years as Chairman.

Roy's prime aim is to make sure that Rural areas, like Lawton, receive a fair proportion of the Council Tax spent in the Borough.

I joined the Party in 1988 because I thought they were the most environmentally friendly and I was impressed with Paddy Ashdown.

Local issues: Waste/incineration plans, custody suite, market, canal side improvement, Middlewich as a tourist destination with Roman, Norman and Salt heritage.

I am passionate about local decision making, involving communities, use of public transport, local environment and increasing recycling/minimising waste.

William (Bill) Scragg

Bill Scragg has lived in Sandbach all his life. He has worked as a probation service officer for the last 26 years. He is currently Town Councillor for West Ward.

He is founder and chairman of the local DIAL-A RIDE transport service. He has been president of the local Lions Club three times and has undertaken voluntary work with the Cheshire Victim Support Scheme.
